PRIVACY POLICY

1. Who we are

BattleRelay Media Ltd ("we", "us", "our") operates battlerelay.com. We are a New Zealand company (NZBN 9429051384720) based at Level 2, 112 Cuba Street, Te Aro, Wellington 6011, New Zealand. We are the "agency" responsible for your personal information under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, and we follow its thirteen Information Privacy Principles (IPPs).

2. What we collect, and why

We collect as little as we can get away with:

• Contact form: your name, email address, chosen subject and message — so we can reply to you. That's the only purpose (IPP 1: we only collect what we need for a lawful purpose connected with what we do).
• Newsletter: your email address, only if you tick the box yourself. We keep a record of when you consented, as the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007 requires.
• Cookies and similar: see our Cookie Policy. Analytics and marketing cookies run only if you opt in via the cookie banner.
• Server logs: our hosting provider records IP addresses and request data for security and error-fixing, retained briefly and automatically.

We collect information directly from you (IPP 2), and we tell you what's happening as we do it (IPP 3) — that's what the notices next to each form are for. We never collect information by unfair or unreasonably intrusive means (IPP 4).

3. What we do with it

We use your information to answer your messages, send the newsletter you asked for, and keep the site running. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We use it only for the purpose we collected it for, or a directly related one (IPPs 10 and 11).

4. Who can see it

Access is limited to the BattleRelay editorial team. We disclose personal information only to service providers who need it to run the site — our email and hosting providers — under obligations of confidentiality. Some of those providers store data outside New Zealand; where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is protected by comparable safeguards, as IPP 12 (cross-border disclosure) requires. We will disclose information to authorities only where the law requires it.

5. How we protect it

Reasonable security safeguards (IPP 5): encrypted connections (HTTPS), access limited to people who need it, and prompt deletion of what we no longer need. We don't keep personal information longer than the purpose requires (IPP 9) — contact correspondence is deleted or anonymised within 24 months; newsletter details are deleted promptly when you unsubscribe.

6. If something goes wrong

If a privacy breach occurs that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and affected people as required by Part 6 of the Privacy Act 2020 — without burying it on page nine.

7. Your rights: access and correction

Under IPPs 6 and 7 you can ask us, at any time and free of charge:

• What we hold about you — we'll send you a copy, normally within 20 working days;
• To correct it — if we decline (rare), you may have a statement of correction attached to the information;
• To delete it — we'll delete anything we're not legally required to keep.

8. Email and the newsletter

The Paper Round is strictly opt-in. Every issue carries a one-click unsubscribe link that works immediately, and every email identifies us as the sender with real contact details — as the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007 requires and as basic manners dictate.

9. Children

The site is a general-audience gaming publication. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 16; if you believe a child has submitted details to us, contact us and we'll delete them.

10. Complaints

If you think we've mishandled your information, tell us first — [email protected] — and we'll investigate and respond within 20 working days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner: privacy.org.nz, or PO Box 10094, Wellington 6143. It's free.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, the date at the top changes with it, and material changes get a note on the site. We won't quietly rewrite history.
